Re: [DML] DeLorean was going to be president for Bricklin?!?!

Wow.

I heard about this from a co-worker of mine this week but I just fluffed
it off as standard misinformation everyone else has about John and his
car in general. I never knew it actually came right out of Malcolm's mouth.

I do agree, and have always thought, that the two cars are very similar,
but I never ever thought that someone like Bricklin would say or
insinuate that DeLorean copied off of them. The similarities are there
but, if anything, I would say that John allowed a lot of Lotus to be put
into the DeLorean more than anything else.

Most people who have taken the time to study this car's history know
that DeLorean and Lotus did a lot of work together which justifies the
large similarities between DeLorean and Lotus at that time.

The only real similarities that I can think of between the Bricklin and
the DeLorean, without researching it, is the overall exterior style of
the car, the emphasis on safety, and the doors, which is the most
obvious feature of them all.

Now that I think about it though, what about the old name for the
DeLorean - the DSV? The whole nomenclature of it is similar to the
Bricklin's, since it was called SV-1 and they both stand for safety vehicle.

Anyone can find similarities between the two cars, but the only real
people who can answer this is someone closely tied to John, John himself
(RIP), or like some of us saw, Malcolm Bricklin. I don't really think he
has any reason to be upset at DMC, or John himself since its not like
it's DMC's fault that Bricklin went into receivership.

Regardless, even if John did in some way copy some of the design cues of
Bricklin, I really doubt that it will be that big of a shock wave in the
DMC community, that we will love our cars less, or be less proud of our
ownership of a DMC. Worst case scenario is it might spark an unfortunate
and childish rivalry between Bricklin owners and DeLorean owners.

There may be lots to think of on this issue... maybe not. It will be
interesting to read on this subject as more people reply and provide
further information.

Nevertheless, I say forget the past, the future is now. If these events
are true, they still will not stop me from living my dream, loving the
DeLorean, loving this community and being inexplicably proud of being an
owner of the only car that has really thrilled me since I was a baby,
waaaaaay before watching BTTF.
