Hi

Remove the rear board, the one that is covered in carpet and it below the 
rear glass, the vertical one. There is a thick foam block on the other side 
and that foam captures all the bad smells in the car. Then when you drive 
the car, the foam heats up from the engine heat and releases those nasty 
smells.
Replace the foam, wash the carpet and most if not all of the bad smell will 
go away.
