[DML] electrical system discharging - help

The alternator on my car is new (about 1 month old) as are the belts. 
Car was running fine. Parked it at the store last night and 10 mins 
later got in. Started it and alternator light came on, flickered, and 
stayed on steady. Volts gage is pointed downward toward the "8". Took 
at look at the alternator...belts ok and its spinning. No noise or 
vibration.

Any ideas as to what's going on?
