[DML] Re: Need help diagnosing sound (from tranny maybe?)

If the fluid is reddish and very thin it could be auto trans fluid. It
should be thick, thicker than motor oil and is usually a kind of dark
grey-blue. The stuff isn't that expensive so I would just drain it and
put in fresh 85-90w gear oil. It is not a fun job but it is not all
that hard. Get a short piece of hose, stick it onto the bottle and
squeeze the stuff in. Stop when level with the level plug. Don't
overfill. Don't force shifts and if you are careful you can "baby" it
till you can have the pin replaced. It is a very cheap parts job. All
of the money is in the labor. When the trans is pulled it might be a
good idea to replace the clutch and bearings. That is when you start
running up the parts bill!
