Re: [DML] Expected travel distance without alternator

  Knut,

I don't want to be responsible for you being on the side of the road, but I drove my failing Motorola from Evansville, IN all the way to St. Louis (about 175 miles). Granted, it was all highway, with no accessories on, and I rarely had to turn on the brake lights. If your commute is highway, I'd say go for it. If not, I'd get a fresh battery before you go in case you run out of juice.

  Hi guys,

It looks like my alternator croaked on my way to work today and my
battery light came on with expected lower voltage reading. I need to
get my car home in order to service it and I'm trying to gauge my odds
of driving it home.

What is a ballpark expected distance/time I should count on getting
out of my car running without a working alternator but with a good
battery? I have a 35 minute drive covering 20 miles. My gut feel is
that I should be able to drive it home, but if I'm way off, I'd rather
know beforehand so I don't end up along the road somewhere.

Knut
