My car was similar to that also. Its beginning to take shape now though, and all the mechanics of it have been sorted out! Maybe in another 2-3 years it will be in excellent condition!
Its an amazing feeling when you look at pictures of what the car was before and after.
I say go for it, seems like the foundation of a nice original DMC-12

Things like tires, cracked dash / binnacle, struts, interior filth, sagging 
headlines etc. are typical problems with cars that have been in the sun and 
neglected.

Get a good deal and go for it!
