[DML] Aircon hi/low pressure connector plugs

I hope Specialtauto (John Hervey) does not mind me using his nicely labelled
image to show the area I am confused with.

Both switches have 2 prongs, why does the 'low' one have a third wire using
a crimp within the moulding not needed?

I have found that the wire sheath has split just above the plug/moulding to
expose the copper within. The split is too close to the moudling to allow a
thorough repair.

What is the best solution as this is exposed to the elements?

Thanks in advance
