Re: [DML] Ship or Drive newly Purchased Delorean

Paul,

Most guys on the list here will recommend that you ship the car home instead of trying to drive it. If the car breaks down on the way home, transporting it home the first time would likely be cheaper especially if you have to factor in days missed from work!!

On the other hand, your new car won't care about 100 mile trip versus a 500 mile trip. Once the car reaches operating temperature and the cooling system is fully pressurized, as long as everything is OK, there really isn't anything too major that can go wrong in 500 miles that didn't already go wrong after 100 miles. The only thing I would be concerned about would be something like the fuel pump circuit overheating or the A/C blower motor flipping a breaker or overheating if you have the A/C on.

The question is, how much do you trust the previous owner about the car's mechanical prowess? Has any other DeLorean owner looked the car over for you? If not, you should probably tow it home - just in case.

Andy

I am looking at a Delorean next Tuesday in VA. I live in MA. If I
decide to buy, I am hesitant to drive the car back the 500 or so
miles, due to age and me not being familiar with the car. The owner
says the car is great running condition, with no mechanical issues.
He has taken it on 100 mile trips, but never as far as 500 miles.
