As I recall, Johnny Carson was sort of "given" a new D almost right off the 
boat, but it was never registered in his name.  On the way home it broke 
down for some reason, that turned out to be minor, and he abandoned it and 
never drove it again.....I wonder if that "tale" is right!    If so, he was 
"barely" the owner!!
