Re: [DML] Monster Garage Thoughts & more

I don't think you have to worry too much about this particular episode doing too much damage to the credibility of the marque. First of all, it was a lousy episode. Secondly, it did not focus on the car (it didn't focus on anything, it was pointless.) There were a few snide remarks, but anyone with half an IQ point could tell the producers were just doing all they could to save what was a flaming hulk of an episode.

You have to look at the entire Monster Garage ideal, which is in some odd way, supposed to be tied in to Jesse James' image of "I don't give a sh!t." Anyone see the El Camino episode? They didn't have to use such a rare car, but they did because they knew it would generally piss a lot of people off and at least draw a lot of attention. Monster Garage does PR in the absolute opposite manor that most Delorean owners do. Monster Garage wants to step on a lot of toes, make a lot of people angry, cause a lot of controversy. They're not out for respect, only for the numbers. Delorean owners are out for respect for the marque, and hope to build that into positive PR. Clearly when the two worlds meet, there's a bit of a conflict.

I'm not a Delo owner (though I do have one as my OS X desktop background right now...) but I know what its like to have a barrage of negative press for a good car (anyone here ever put down a Citation X-11? Fantastic car http://www.geocities.com/citation_x11/) I don't think you have to worry about this being a down-turn for publicity, if anything it's a down-turn for Monster Garage.

And PS... Don got a raw deal!
