Another great import, the DeLorean DMC-12, with its stainless steel body and gull-wing doors was a limited production car brought to life by former GM guru John DeLorean. His company, with production facilities in Northern Ireland went bankrupt while the car experienced purported workmanship problems. This was all amid an infamous drug-buying scandal surrounding DeLorean and his attempts to save his company. A true â80s star car (remember the âBack to the Futureâ movies) produced between 1981 and 1983, it featured a rear engine and rear-wheel drive. The striking body design by Giugiaro of Turin, Italy, still looks modern some 20-plus years later. There are about 6,000 thought to still exist. Five years ago you could still buy a DeLorean for $12,000. Today youâre more likely to pay $18,000-$22,000. The DMC-12 is gaining in value annually.
