Just like the starters, ignition coils, and CV boots the speedo cables are among the DeLorean parts that have a less than 1% failure rate. As Bruce indicated all that is needed to keep the DeLorean speedometer working is a shot grease about every 5,000 miles.

I'd be inclined to think that 90 weight oil added at the frequency you've
been doing will find it's way into the speedometer head sooner or later and
cause a mess. I use a grease gun ( the same grease I lube the chassis with)
with a finely pointed adapter ( available at autostores ) to shoot a bit of
grease into the hole opened up by removing that small screw on the underside
of the drive. I do it about twice each summer or every 5,000miles. It seems
to work as my speedometer is still going.
