Lotus used this same transaxle in the Esprit for several years with gear ratios better 

suited for performance, including a 3.88:1 final drive vs the 3.44:1 used in the DeLorean. 

Going to 245/50 tires in the rear also lowers the final drive about 12%. I've run those 

size tires for a while and there is no clearace problems.

If you lowered the rear end ratio the turbo would come sooner but this is
not available for the D.
