Yep that could be it alright. there is a fix that re orients the switch to prevent
the exact problem you have.

I was once stranded hundreds of miles from home on a week end, had to get towed home only to discover that I could have jumped the dam switch.....We thats what being a new owner is all about I guess.

I can send you the information in the event you want to do the fix your self.
