[DML] Re: Ignition Switch



When I first got my D it was VERY hard to insert the key, thanks to the
ball-bearing. I ended up using WD-40 or some other lubricant what helped
substantially. I know you're not supposed to use liquids in locks, but I
think it's only because it leaves residue on the key. I don't think
graphite would have done the trick. Afterwards I repeatedly
inserted/removed the key, wiping it clean each time until it didn't come out
dirty any more.

There is a ball bearing that the tip of the key has to move aside just as
you start to insert the key into the ignition switch. In my car the
steering wheel has to be in the locked position before you can insert the
key...
