[DML] Re: Centering the air meter plate (SOLVED)

You should not have had to break the washer. I can't remember for sure
but it may have been installed upside-down. It is supposed to be
there, I have seen it on all the mixture units I have disassembled. I
am not sure exactly what it's purpose is but you have to figure the
manufacturer would not put extra parts in that weren't necessary. In
any case I was correct in that something wasn't right inside and
adjusting it was not going to get it. A P.O. or his mechanic must have
been in there, this cannot happen by itself, the unit was disassembled
at some point in it's history. Now make sure the air sensor plate is
still centered. It must not touch the sides of the venturi and the
space around should be equal. You may have to readjust the mixture
screw, it may be way off if the motor was running with the air sensor
plate as out-of-position as it was. That cannot be done except with
everything reassembled and the motor running. It is VERY sensitive,
ie, a little bit of a turn changes things A LOT. Don't forget to plug
the hole over the mixture screw or you have a large vacuum leak.
