The problem with the hood you speak of is a real simple fix, I have an '81 
that had the same raised hood, simply lower the hood catch  about 1/4 to 1/2 
inch or whatever is needed and this goes away, I have owned old #3513 for almost 
23 years now and still love it, welcome to the club.
