It's kinda sad to hear about the loss, not to mention see the end
results.  Again, at least you had gotten out ok and there's few
other injuries (at least ot my knowledge).

What do you intend to do with the wreck? In my own case I'd be one
to keep it safe until I could find some means to rebuild it,, but
thats just me.  I guess something holds sentimental value when it
keeps me from getting flattened.

Turning the mixture screw is not the way to set the idle. Make sure
the throttle plates are closing all the way. Check that there is no
play in the throttle linkage and isn't binding, holding the throttle
open. Make sure the throttle is hitting the idle switch turning on the
idle motor. Even with new parts you could have water in a spark plug
well so check that the boots are fitting tightly and everything is
dry. Yes, the timing (mechanical advance) will be off if you are not
checking it at idle RPM.

Try this:
Raise the front left wheel. Disconnect the lower speedo cable at the
bottom of the Lambda counter. Have someone spin the wheel while you
watch the inner cable. If it turns then the problem is above in the
lambda counter, upper cable or speedo. If it isn't turning then it is
the drive disc, angle drive, or lower cable.

I just got a ballot for the Board of Directors. I really don't
understand how you are supposed to vote. How many Directors do they
actually want. If anyone understands this and can explain it please
respond. Also I would like to know how others feel about specific

less or a combination?

I read somewhere that the trunk and engine lids should
"pop" open when the latch is pulled. Mine sure don't
pop. Is there a spring some place or is the pop a

I've had a large response from indivuals requesting certain parts from the car, or to buy the car. After I'm paid replacement value for the car, I do have the option to buy back- I'm not sure what the cost as of yet. I've already promised the car to one individual, and I have a back up list behind him. I'm not going to part the car out, not only do I not have the heart to do that to my car, I don't have the time or space. I'm a college student, and the car stays at my parents house several hours away from me. Thanks again everyone for the well wishes, and the inquiries. -Louie

PS- The fascia pic is for Bill Robertson. He had given me his old fascia to put on the car less than 24 hours before the wreck, so I could sharpen the car up for SEDOC. :-)

Hi John.

Fluky symptoms like this are highly suggestive of an open circuit. 
My dollar is betting that you'll find a connector that makes a poor,
or no connection, somewhere in the instrumentation circuit, or a bad
ground for the instrumentation.  I don't know where the binnacle's
ground is, but I'd find it before I let myself get too depressed
about it.

This rumor flies around from time to time, with different cars being substituted for the one being buried.

The only "car in a time capsule" that we have been able to find, is a 1957 Plymouth buried in Tulsa, OK.  Being a 1958 Plymouth owner, I am anxiously awaiting the day in 2007 when they pull the car out of the ground.  You can read further information at http://www.forwardlook.net/countdown.asp

Sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere.  When you can get the
accessories to run but the engine won't even begin to turnover it usually
indicates that you cannot draw enough current to engage the starter
solenoid.  Check the bigger connections like on the starter, the alternator,
and the battery terminals.

I haven't dealt with Rob on a repair issue but they are very helpful with
parts, etc.

I've had two experiences with other mechanics that are similar. First time I
took the car to have the idle screw adjusted correctly (by a Volvo guy) and
it took him 2 1/2 months!

The second time I wanted to talk to a guy about a head gasket replacement
and he said he could even look at it until fall (it was late spring).

Louie,

When a car insurance company totals a car.  The give you the stated
value and then sell the car for scrap.  They usually only get a few
hundred dollars for the car. 

What this means is that you can cut a deal from your insurance company
to take a few hundred dollars less and you get to keep the Delorean.

It is very, very unlikely, that they would know that the car can be
parted out for thousands of dollars.  Junk yard just don't have time for
this detail.

You could easily make yourself a lot more money and save these valuable
Delorean parts.

Even if you don't want dissemble the car yourself,  keep the car away
from the insurance vendors.

I am sure that any of the delorean repair shops or people like Ken and
Rich would buy it and sell the parts off to those who need to fix their
deloreans.

Hello-  This is my first post.  I am the new owner of an 83
(Finally!).  I was given one key, in poor condition.  I'd like to
have another "code cut" rather than have my one key copied.  I read
messages 34023, 34063, and 34933 and cannot find a code written above
the driver's door headliner.  Is there somewhere else I can look?  If
not, where else can you get the code for the key?  If I have no
choice but to copy my one key, what blank do I specify?  Message
34063 talks about an Ilco blank X29.  Message 34933 talks about
a "Lowes" blank 38.  Naturally, I would prefer code-cut.  Can anyone

It sounds like you may have a dead spot in your starter.

When it happens again, try pushing the car forward a little at a time until
you find a point where it starts. If you roll it backwards and it fails to
start, you have a dead spot for sure.

This advice works on the front bonnet latch and the rear engine latch.
First make sure that the bar goes into the center of the lock without
rubbing on the sides. If it does it can wear the bar and won't pop up.
Next make sure the release handle slides easily and the spring pulls
it back when you let go. It doesn't hurt to lubricate the cable once
in a while. Now in the latch is 2 springs. Shorten the smaller one 1
or 2 turns. On the engine cover adjust it so it doesn't rub on the
sides or the back. It won't pop up until you lift the sunshade and
then pull the release. For insurance you should add the "back-up
cable". It is a piece of stranded cable so if the release cable ever
breaks you can still open the bonnet (trunk).

I got my key copied at Home Depot. Its an Access+ #51.
I dont think the 83's have the code written above the headliner,
perhaps because they are "one-key" cars.

You might want to call DMCH and talk to James Espey. He found a file
that contains SOME of the vin #'s and the corresponding key code. Even
though your key is worn a locksmith can "read" the code off the key.
Most of the key blanks you can get locally are going to be soft. Try
Jesser's keys. You can find him in Hemmings or DMCH has blanks too.
You can also take a lock out to have it read for the code. The easiest
one is the one in the "vault" door. Take it anyway so you can test the
new key.
