I forgot to ask, when you had to replace the fascia did you color match what
was on there before. And did you have to repaint the front fascia to match
the rear? Should I demand they paint the front fascia the same color.
Because the paint on my fascias aren't original colors. My front has
scratches and a few small chips. It definitely won't look right.

It seems to me some of you guys just take our beloved cars a little TOO Seriously. How ridiculous is a class action suit against the makers of a TV program because they make fun of the car. BIG DEAL, get over it, it's just their opinion. It's not going to devalue the car because some mediocre American TV channel decides to take the mickey out of it. Also You can't seem to win with the BTTF argument. Some hate references to the car through the film, for others it's obviously a reason to own a Delorean. But to start giving out about the packaging is crazy. The film is NOT about Deloreans. Try watching it sometime.

Let Don do it for sure. He has experience dealing with insurance
companies. He is one of the best so he can advise you too. By the
way, have him put a high-line light on for you. That's extra
protection and more brake light for those behind you to see.

I hope you are OK and were not injured. As bad as it may seem to have
your car hurt it can be fixed a lot easier than you can! To get
insurance you have to deal with a company that is licensed in your
State so even if you never heard of a particular insurance company
they should be allright having to pass muster with the State to be
licensed and able to do business within the state.
My advice to you would be to tell your insurance company about it but
file it only as a report and not a claim (assuming ther was no bodily
injury to you or lost time). You also must report it to the State if
it exceeds a certain amount. Now since you were hit in the rear go to
the other car's insurance and file your claim with them. Doing this
avoids your deductible and can sometimes speed things up. When the car
gets inspected (adjusted) make sure to educate the appraiser and have
him verify all his parts, labor, etc, with a Delorean vender. If you
are close to one (a Delorean vender) the best thing would be to have
it inspected there. Then they can come to an "agreed upon" repair
price. After everything gets done install a 3rd brake light on the
rear louvre to try to prevent this from happening again and always
make sure all of your taillights and brake lights are functioning!

Hello,
I talked to my insurance company AAA and they were really nice. They are
taking care of contacting his insurance company and reporting to the DMV.
They even called Don's for me and set me up for a Monday drop off. And he
told me I won't have to pay my $500. deductible since it was his fault.
Then I call Don's after I hung up with him and asked about painting. He told
me that yes they would have to repaint the front fascia to match. So I'll
get the color back to its close original paint spec.
And the free flowing exhaust would be nice, I'll see what I can do.
Anyway it can't be worse than what Don told me. They have another DeLorean
coming in that a garage fell on it.
Thanks Everyone for your advice,

Calmed Down Mike

It seems to me that the release on dvd hasnt generated anymore awareness than usual.People are still pretty much convinced that John DeLorean was a coke dealer (those who remember him anyway) ,its hard to change peoples minds. You cant seem to pry someones attention away from their television for 5 minutes anymore, even is the car in bttf is parked outside.

Hello-

I don't have the DVDs yet (hopefully, they're wrapped and sitting
under a tree w/ my name on it) but a few people alerted me that
Universal has admitted that Parts II and III have been mis-framed on
the DVD widescreen release.  You're probably thinking "Whoa, this is
heavy!"  There are many threads about it on the discussion boards at
bttf.com, but someone named "Prizm" posted a mini-faq here:
http://www.bttf.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=001052

Also says Universal will let you return the flawed discs to them for
replacements when they are ready in Feburary.  Address and phone
number for returns is given on the page.

Subject: Insurance upgrade offer.

It's been a while since the dreaded Insurance thread has come up.
Yesterday I stopped by my Allstate agent to see about making some
changes to my policy when he mentioned that they just started a new
partnership program with Hagerty Insurance.  In the end, my agent
switched me, gave me better coverage, and saved me about 40% per year!

They're roadside assistance program is only $15/year and included
flatbed towing (first $50 covered for up to 3 times per year),
battery jumps or new battery delivery, flat tire service, lockout
service, and fuel delivery when you run out of gas.  That's a lot of
peace of mind for $15!  Info on it at
http://www.hagerty.com/NewsManager/templates/faq_template.asp?
articleid=61&zoneid=21

To me, going with Hagerty looks like such a great deal.  Does anyone
have any experience with them, positive or negative, when either
filing a claim or needing assistance?

Insurance reminder to the lurking newbies, when insuring a D, be sure
you state and give proof of a declared value for the car.  That's
what they'll pay if it's totaled or stolen.

Like many regular drivers I find myself talking to people about the car constantly, so I wouldn't see any major reason to amp it up now that the BTTF DVD is out.  More power to ya though, Dan--that BTTF connection is probably is a good thing to do for owners who do not drive their car as often.

I had to share this...too funny....

I drove my Delorean today to run the engine a little and put some gas in
it.

When I pulled into the station, the attendant felt he had to make
conversation while I was pumping my gas (no biggie...I like to yap)

He asks me <all chipper and happy>: "Seen Raulph lately?"

Not quite sure who/what he is talking about, I reply "Raulph who?"
He answers: "The guy who made the car...."

all of a sudden it clicked on me, and I replied "oh...no.  Its 'John
Delorean...not 'Raulph Lauren' "

He felt a little bit silly, and walked away without another word.

The thought just came to me that with Universal showing the in- theatre
promo for the Back To The Future DVD set in front of Lord Of
The Rings the next three weeks, we could probably get quite a few
groups of interested admirers to flock around by conspicuously
parking our cars outside the theatres.  Great opportunity then to
correct a few persistant false public conceptions about the D, just
by chatting with people, or by passing out imformational handouts
about the car (is that printable tri-fold brochure still up on the
DMC News website to download?)  Not that I've got the time to spare
to actually go out & do this, but for someone with the free time, and
the inclination to do it...

I've been reading the postings about the publicity of the DeLorean lately
and I'd like to chime in..

Hold on a second guys- DeLoreans are special to us, but to the rest of the
world the car is kind of a historical oddity. People have had all sorts of
reactions when they see the car, going from absolute positive to sometimes
absolute negative.

I drove my DeLorean to the local theater last night to see the Two Towers,
and I got lots of looks, thumbs up, "wow, cool car!", and other reactions.
No one asked me history or engineering questions, and for me to stand there
with a little pamphlet would make me look a lot like a religious solicitor
(no insult intended to anyone, just using the example) and not to mention
kind of foolish.

The VH1 thing intrigues me, I've been trying to think of a reaction for the
first person who comes up to me uses any terms concerning femine anatomy
towards my car. Oh how stupid I could make them look...

My point is this- we own our Deloreans mainly to enjoy them and live a
dream- not to sell the car to the public. I believe to own a DeLorean is own
it's oddball reputation, and there's no way around it.

I'm not trying to start any fights, just giving my opinion.

Perhaps it was done "quick and dirty" as Kevin said ... I didn't
recognize the name of the man with the accent who identifies himself as
the man behind the re-release of the films. Maybe they had a limited
budget; it would be interesting to find out -- anyone know much about
this, and how much Universal was willing to put into the thing? The only
promotional materials I saw were in the "smaller" music/DVD shops --
FYE, Sam Goody, Wherehouse Music, etc. I did see some online promotion
at Amazon.com.

BTW, I also have the "UHF" DVD, and as "Weird" Al says on that DVD, "The
scenes were deleted because ... they SUCK." Keep in mind that before
there were DVDs, nobody shot extra footage with a home-release in mind
(like Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings trilogy), and most scenes
which were cut from movies were cut for a very good reason.

Also keep in mind that, like most people's opinions of the DMC, they
either love the movies or hate them. Interesting parallel, that.

All right, no more off-topic posts until the end of the year. Happy
holidays, everyone ...

Regards,
Farrar

I got a lot of comments on the going to a party instead of sending out the
magazine thought I would share this one from Kevin :-)

(Holiday party tonight!? How dare you put your personal life before us!?

;-)

Just kidding!)

I did get them out last night (after the party) so they were in the mail on
Wedensday as stated.  So those that ordered should get it by Christmas.

Whew  glad that is over.

Hope you all enjoy the magazine has a lot of articles about owners and the
DeLoreans they drive.

Mark - Glad you liked my daughter on the cover :-)
