Rustproof, The fuel distributor it's self wouldn't cause a higher idle, but
if the o ring seal under it is missing or deteriorated, that would affect the
vacuum. The # for the Delorean fuel distributor is 0 438 100 109. Volvo's
will work in most cases, but they to be pressure tested and flow tested for
accuracy. I have listed some of the Volvo's and Porsches on my web site.

Shain, Eric and group, The thermistor starts off at about 10,000 ohms cold.
It's 41Degrees this morning, so in my storage containers, that was the start.
If you just hold it in you hand while taking a reading, the ohmage will drop.
Be sure to use a good digital VOM, some of the older and cheaper analog
meters may load the circuit to much. Measure right across the terminals.

Robert,
I do know that Rob Grady is working on different colored letters that
will go in the rear bumper. They aren't going to be SS, but another kind of
metal that will be able to have different colors on them. He did mention a
green so he could use it on his green car. Before you go ahead and paint the
letters, I would give him a call and see when he expects those to be ready.

There is an intersting corollary to the increase in
the number of subscribers. Check back issues of
Hemmings (back 18-24 months) under "D" cars for sale
and then check a current Hemmings. You'll find that
the number of listings now are less than 1/4 of what
they were a few months ago.
I don't know for sure what this means, but I suspect
there has been a significant change in ownership and
the influx of new owners, in turn, has caused the DML
membership to rise.

Below (http://24.46.235.195:81/images/temp/) is a picture of my original OEM
console with the new DIN cut replacement console from DMC Houston on the
right. My question is, When I install the new DMC console, it does not have
a black finish like the original. I originally realized this problem when I
bought the console, but DMC Houston assured me that the vents, and radio
cover all surface areas. This is not true.
If you see below, the red arrows show areas on the ORIGINAL console that are
visable to the naked eye (even when the center console is on the unit) and
those SAME areas on the replacement one now look like silver sheet metal.
What is the correct thing to do here? I bought this $150 replacement so that
the car looks unmodified. If I use this unit, IT WILL STAND OUT.
Should I spray paint it black? Will that still look good when done? What
have other people done? What does DMC Houston recommend to other buyers?

This is a Nov '81 build VIN 07046 going up for sale in Tampa, Florida by the
original owner JT Todd. It has a manual transmission, gray interior & 19K
miles with original window sticker. The owner is a friend of the original
dealer in town and test drove all the cars that were in inventory (about 10
of them, imagine!) and liked this one best, so he bought it. It has had
only one mechanic ever work on the car, and this mechanic was originally
employed by the dealer.
Condition: Small ding in passenger door & left front fender -- things that
can be easily fixed by someone skilled in paintless ding repair. Dash has
no cracks, but binnacle is cracked. Fascias are faded, leather seats are
dry & cracked. Headliner has been replaced. Vehicle is currently not
running due to a fuel system problem which is currently being looked at by
local DML members. Asking price has not been determined, but a reasonable
offer will not be refused. Seller is highly motivated as he has only two
parking spaces and recently bought a 3rd car. As in buying real estate, the
location of a car can be as much a consideration to a buyer as the price &
condition, so if you are a buyer on this end of the world (especially if you
are not too far away,) this is worth looking at.

Your litany sounds familiar. But I didn't buy this car with the intent of
treating it like a turn key driver. As I became more familiar with it I
realized that Rube Goldberg must have been on the engineering staff. The only
thing I can think of as to why they did certain things is because they were
desperate, out of time, out of money, and maybe had no other choice.
Anyway, I consider my Delorean a kit car that comes 70% assembled from the
factory, with the remaining 30% to be done by you the owner. But the catch
is the factory doesn't tell you what the remaining 30% is before you buy in.
I don't intend to keep it stock. Stock is synonomous with inferior in too
many areas of this car. I love to tinker and this is a great kit car to
tinker with. It gets better with every change I make, and if it doesn't then
it's no worse off then what Dunmurry gave us, and I simply roll back to oem.
I worry that maybe if I keep having fun with it, and making changes, that
I'll eventually end up loosing money on this one when it comes time to cash
out. I've made a habit out of making money on all of my special interest cars
over the past 10 years or so. I think the DMC may be the exception. But it's
been a concious choice.... the cost of fun and having a good time..

When I put in my Pioneer cd player, it came with a mounting cage
thingy that you put in the din-size hole & bend some tabs to hold
it in place. You then slide the radio into the mounting cage & it
snaps in place.

I spent good part of the day playing with my car. It was a good day. :)
Seriously, I've made a little headway on my high throttle issue, which is
good, because it seemed to be getting worse (higher). Or it just could have
been my imagination.
I spent quite a bit of time checking out the throttle microswitch to that
activates the ECU by supplying ground. I thought it was bad, but it turned
out to be bad alligator testclip for my meter. Bad 'gator, bad, bad. (I must
be feeling a little rummy, sorry).
I also disassembled the throttle hub unit (I forgot what it is called and I
already put away my books); I cleaned out 20 years of dirt and re-lubed it
up good with white lithium stuff. That may have helped some-- it certainly
couldn't hurt.
I also adjusted the stop screws that hit the micro-switch and m/s frame. My
idle is now down to about 950-1050 when running hot. That is much better,
but still too high compared to the 725-825 normal range. The bottom throttle
stop screw pretty far out; it has a little bit of threads showing on the
underside. What is the purpose of having this lower screw? Isn't the tang on
the throttle cable hub do the same thing?
Q: BTW, is the tang suppossed to ride on the stop post?
I can't seem to get mine to stop flush on the post everytime. Maybe I need
to back out both stop screws and slowly move the bottom screw in until it
meets with the tang-stop and then make the m/s screw do his job. That sounds
logical. I think I'll try that but I'd like someone to answer that question
above.

Hello all.
I have a quick and potentially dumb question for some of you. What are the
3 wires ( yellow, white, brown ) that go to the power antenna? Reason I ask is that
I'm putting an aftermarket antenna in and I can't seem to get it to go up or down. It
has the yellow, brown and white wires on it also but they go to a relay and change
to red, blue and black when they come back out. The red is supposed to be power,
black is ground, don't know about the blue yet. If someone could help me I would
appreciate it.

Probably easier than painting would be to just use exterior trim black-out
tape. It is sold in auto parts stores along side the pin striping stuff.
If you're feeling really cheap, just use electrical tape. Everything
pressing on the panel will probably hold it in place.

When I did mine I drilled a couple of holes too, only I made the so the wer
just UNDER the new radio. The I took a bit of threaded stock (M6) and put
that in from side to side. Now my radio lies on this bar at the rear and is
supported in front in the bracket. Big advantage is that I can remove my
radio through the slot in front and can reach the wiring for the radio very
easily. With Walters' option I think you have to remove the concole.
If I were to do the conversion again, I'd do it the same way, only I'd use a
dremel now, instead of the pliers and nibbler I used now...

Now either this car has been about or the owners have, and have holes in their pockets.

I wasn't going to post any more information on the car show in Memphis other
than stats but in reviewing Jims e-mail that we have had a lot of new members
lately, I thought maybe I should post at least this one more time for those
that do not Know about the show. In addition there have been additions and
changes on the web page. Check out Friday events at the bottom. Rick
Jeffries has really gotten into DeLoreans.

This show is the third one I have sponsored and promises to be the biggest by
far.
It is a four day event with most of the activities happening in and around
Memphis/Graceland with a side trip to the Hollywood Casino.

entertainment, (too much food) and a lot of fun driving.
The show is June 13-16 and there is still room available but its going fast
and is expected to sell out for Saturday night and Sunday although at this
time there is still room available.

I am working on and am reasonable sure that the D-REX will be joining us at
Memphis. This is an awesome machine and it attracts a lot of attention.

I can't let Jim's comments pass without relating this
story.
I bought my first D new in 1982 after following John's
saga in auto mags since the late 70's. I was 50 years
old and this was my first real toy!. I was sinfully
proud of this new symbol of having arrived in life.
The first weekend I took it out for a drive and all
went well. When I returned home I parked it in the
driveway and began to clean it. Hell, it wasn't
really dirty, but it gave me an excuse to lovingly
caress it.
Two small neighbor kids came down to watch and look at
the car. One of them really oooo'd and aaaah'd over
it while the other fellow kept pretty quiet. As they
walked away, I hear the quiet kid say to the other
one, "It ain't so great. My Mom says its a kit car
with a VW motor!"
Talk about crushed!!! By a 10 year old!!!!!

Dyno testing has shown that the stock ignition is insufficient above 5000 rpm.

Joseph, I don't know about that, I have a lot of people tell me how
intresting it is and what kind of a car is it. Then I have to tell them BTTF,
then they say, Oh Yea. They are so unique, I think they would hold their own.
