FWIW

For a loop of wire to "detect" metal, there must be motion.
It is the car passing over/into the loop which generates a current in
the wire.  This current is then sensed.  Hence, it doesn't matter
where the bike stops.  If it has enough metal to generate the
required current to set off the sensors, it will do so when the bike
enters the loop.

Joel,
 I had my fascia painted last year and was able to get the correct paint. (
codes and all). The first code listed on most lists is no longer the correct
number. However, there is a replacement # that is correct. I searched the
back issues and found a 1-800 #, called it and they were able to get me a
dealer near me that had the paint. I'll go search me stuff and post the #'s.

I replaced one of my seals last year.  Its not extremely difficult but does
require a great amount of care.  I did not remove my torsion bar to do it. 
However a good tip is to use duct tape and tape the torsion bar (if you dont
remove it) so in case you hit it with the drill or a tool you wont damage it.
 Also be careful drilling out the old rivots.  If you go too far you will
leave a ding on the outside of the door.  The hardest part is drilling them
out and then trying to punch out the old rivots.  Main thing is to be careful
on both or these steps to avoid leaving a ding in the door.  If your pop
rivots dont fit try using a smaller shaft one.  I was able to install new
rivots with the torsion bar in place.  Hope this helps

I'm in the exact same situation you are, but I haven't discovered yet that
my riveter won't fit.  One word of caution is that Rob told me to be careful
of denting the door when the bit pushes through the rivet.  He also said
that it is hard to get the old rivet pieces out.

I'm thinking I'm going to save that job for when I replace my T-panel.  The
metal under it is rusted pretty bad and I'm thinking about replacing it too.
To do that I will need to remove the doors.  One job leads to another!

(pardon the use of this overused word) on the top of your door.

    Thanks joe, I just got my rebuilt starter back and will install
it by saturday. The shope said it was burnt out from the previous
owner trying to start the car with a low voltage battery. We will try

I had to send an e-mail to them and let them know.  All in all it
looks like a nice original car.  It even has the hood with the gas
flap.  The one thing that I saw that I thought was interesting was in
the following picture:

Hi All,

Has anyone had success with dying carpet?  I have some stains I'd like
to cover.

Plasti-Kote brand Fabric Color (Slate Gray, #512)  comes in spray cans
and covers very well on my test piece, but the shade is just a bit
dark.  Anyone have any luck with other brands, or professional dying?

Ok Marc, will do. I wasn't gonna say anything, but I may as well now. When I
went to JZD's mansion two summers ago, before he lost it to the bank,
Kathryn asked if she could sit in my car. I said of course! So she sat in
the drivers seat, and said that my car was the first DeLorean she ever sat
in. I was suprised and asked her how that was possible. She said that when
she was little, her dad used to put her on the parcel shelf behind the seats
and drive her places. She said she never actually sat in the seat of the
car. This was not this past summer, but the summer before that so, maybe she
forgot about me and my car. A few other DML members were there and heard her
say that as well. Marc wasn't one of them. ;-)

She could have been stretching the truth I guess....but thats what she told
me unless I misunderstood her. A few others were around, but I guess it
really doesnt matter. Im not out to call anyone a liar. I did have a private
conversation with Dan though which I found interesting.

....either way, I think that we can all see that JZD probabally hasnt owned a
DeLorean for quite some time. Its a shame too because out of all people, He
really should have one.

The best source nationaly is to look in Hemmings Motor News. It should
be available at any large newsstand and can be subscribed to. It is
the bible of the car hobby and under "services offered" you can find
people who can transport cars or just about anything related to the
car hobby. Good luck but be prepared to spend twice your origional
estamite to return the car to good condition. Sorry, but is a fact of
life when buying a 20 year old car you tend to underestimate the true
cost and time involved.

       I am kinda chiming in late, but I have just returned from a trip and
am trying to catch up on the DML.  As possibly the most recent owner to
change the suspension (about a week ago to be exact), I would like to simply
like to offer my approval of a particular shock/spring combination.  I hope
the moderator of the week will allow this posting and yes I do realize it can
be considered as a "me too posting" or bringing up a dead thread.  Anyway, on
to the short message.....

I was growing tired of looking at my nose high car and decided that it
finally needed to be lowered.  I opted for the PJ Grady custom made front
shocks and euro 1.5 inch lowering spring.  When I picked up my car with the
new shocks/springs installed I realized I now had a DeLorean and not the
DeLump I had before.  You may be asking what is a DeLump?  The sound my car
made and felt like every time I drove over a bump in the road!  I was hoping
to achieve a cosmetically pleasing (to my eye) look for my car and I ended up
with that and the added pleasure of a more stable ride.  I had no idea my car
was in need of a front end upgrade.  FYI the rear is stock and I am happy
with the way it is.  I am simply stating I am satisfied with my parts and I
think I made the right decision for me and my car.  Anyway......on to winter
project number 2.

Dave et al,
    You may already be familiar with this product, but I thought I'd pass
on the name just in case.  If any of the stains you have on your carpet
are rust stains, you can remove them with a product called "whink" rust
stain remover.  You can get it at Meijer, and I'd imagine most other
large chain stores like that in the home care products isle.  It's sold
in a small brown bottle with a black cap.
    This product is color fast and will not bleach your carpet, but it's
still advisable to test it on a small hidden area before you use it
everywhere.  Basically all you have to do is sprinkle the product on the
offending spots and wipe it off with a dry rag.  The spots will vanish
almost instantaniously.  Very handy for those tough spots where the seat
rails meet the carpet, especially if your roof leaks!
    It's the best rust stain remover I've ever seen, and thought I'd pass
it along.

Dave What kind of Stains do you have in your carpet? I am in the Automotive
Reconditioning Buisness and I can help you out here...Carpet dying is a last
ditch effort. The dye is only a temporary fix and it doesn't work as well
with lite color carpeting In your case Grey is a hard color to dye...E-mail

I believe that the answers to both your questions are "no"

The DMC Angle drive looks VERY similar to the angle drive that hangs
on the transmission of an MGB, but it is not the same. MAYBE some of
the internals would be transfereble, but I'd be surprised if the
ratios are the same. And from what I've seen of aftermarket MGB
parts, it's not any cheaper than buying the right one.

Also - some of the DMC vendors are now selling a "hardened" version
of the angle drive that should last much longer. Another reason to
stick with the right stuff.

I have been unable to buy Auto Specialty cross-drilled brake rotors for the
rear of my Delorean.  Here is what I have so far:  Auto Specialty told me
that they have the parts in stock.  All I needed to do was order them
through one of their wholesale customers.  I wanted to order them through a
Delorean vendor, but none of them carry this product.  So ordered the parts
from Summit Racing in late November.  I had the front rotors & pads in two
weeks, but they put the rear rotors on back order.  The pads they sold me
were Qualitee brand and look like junk.  The paint on them is chipping off,
and the corner of one of the pads is chipped off.  I don't intend to use
them.

I've made several phone calls trying to figure out what is causing the delay
on the rear rotors.  After getting the run-around at Auto Specialty, they
tell me that they are out of the rear rotors.  I asked if or when they would
make more, and they tell me that the person I need to talk to is not in.
Apparently this person is never in.  I tried asking for Matt Wiess since he
was the one responsible for developing this product, and they told me that
he no longer works for them.

So now I have new front rotors that I don't want to use until I can get new
rear rotors.  My front rotors are fine anyway.  The problem is that one of
my rear rotors is warped and chipped deep enough that it isn't repairable.
I don't want to put the front rotors on my car yet because I am worried that
it might throw my front-to-rear brake proportioning out of wack.  My idea of
buying all 4 rotors was so that they would all be cross-drilled and match.

Now I don't know what to do but wait and hope that I can eventually hear an
explanation from someone.  My brake fluid looks like diarrhea, and the low
fluid switch in the cap was disconnected by the previous owner.  I cleaned
it up and found that it wouldn't work anyway.  I don't want to bleed the
system for fear that clean fluid would cause a leak somewhere.  There
doesn't appear to be any leaks currently.  From papers that came with the
car and previous brake fluid paint damage on a front rim, it appears that
one of the calipers was replaced.  Apparenlty anything that was done to this
car before I bought it was done only half-way just in order to make the car
driveable enough to sell.  Does a new switch/cap come with a rebuilt master
cylinder?  Does anyone have any ideas or experiences concerning
cross-drilled rotors that they would like to share?
