Hey all-

Would anyone on the list have the web address giving the
information about the DMC Houston open house taking place
in June?  THe only mention I found in archives were the
dates of June 14-17, 2001.  I would like to know a schedule
of events and such.

I don't know how much of a chore it would be to make this change, but here's my idea: the light switches on the door of my Volvo have an interesting option.  You can push them in by hand, twisting slightly, and they will lock into place.  Pushing on them, either by hand, or by closing the door, will unlock them.  They lock into the "off" position, so you can work on the car without running down your batteries.  Walt, your comment about replacing "the switch on the door post with a small hand operated switch to save the battery" is what made me think about this.  Has anyone ever looked at doing something like this for the D?  For those of you working on possible replacement switches, how about adding this type of feature?

This thread is getting a bit speculative, and I've seen similar threads
killed by the moderators for this reason.  But if we don't brain storm
together then new fixes become harder to come up with.  Well anyway, I hope
this goes through...

It would be interesting to see if that particular Volvo door switch could be
adapted to the Delorean.  HOWEVER, the Delorean door does not fit with the
same tolerances as a 'normal' car door.  As simple as the OEM design is, I
doubt that anything more complicated could be made to work in the same way.
I tried adding a little piece of vacuum hose on the end of one of my door
switches as this has been published as a workable fix.  This put more
leverage on the plastic stick allowing it to fold over.  Now the switch
really has problems.

Looking in a '99 Delorean One catalogue, they list new door switches with
'protective end caps' for $8.27 each.  If these are nothing more than OEM
door switches with rubber tips, then I wouldn't consider them.  This
catalogue is rather amusing in that they are so hard to acquire.  In fact, I
don't think they ever came out with an official catalogue in years.  This
one I photocopied from a D1 customer who obviously should remain anonymous.
It is stamped 'DRAFT' and 'COPY' like is done  with legal documents.  I
suppose this makes it officially unofficial.  Maybe I'll start labeling all
of my e-mails like this for my own protection. :)

On a funny note, a few days ago I was getting out of a 2 door Olds and
noticed how the long door barely cleared the curb and ended up hitting the
landscape bushes.  I said to myself, "Oh, this is one of those doors that
open the wrong way."  Then I laughed at myself for thinking that the gull
wing Delorean door was the 'right way', but then it is -- isn't it?

Since my car is approaching 19k miles on the original (ASFAIK) NCT's , and it's our anniversary this week (me and the better half, not the car), I'm shopping for tires.

I haven't had to buy good tires in quite a while, so I'm a little out of my league.

I specifically am looking for Daily Driving tires, but will happily compile info for Speed/Performance Freaks as well.
You may simply vote for one tire or grade several on a scale of -1 to 5. If no grade is given I will assume it is a '3'.

5 =EXCEPTIONAL;
4 = Great for the money,
3 =  Satisfactory
2 = Will Do,
1 = Pass It by Unless in Dire Straits
-1 = Don't Go There.

Las time I spoke with the lady who was in charge of the Museum down
in Laughlin she said that she had 2 cars there (guess the other one
must have been moved out). If it's the car I'm thinking of, I might
be able to tell you a little about it. I remember that it was an
early VIN. Alot of very early cars that left the factory didn't come
with front emblems mounted. I have pictures somewhere of the VIN
plate and the binnacle from the inside. I know that the car was owned
by a couple by the name of Ruby who lived in Idaho. Originally the
asking price was $20K, but was later on dropped to $18K I believe. A
while later the car was sold. Though I don't know who the car was
sold to, I do know that they decided to let it stay at the museum.
What makes the car unique was that only half of the car is painted.
Below the belt line the car is painted purple, and above it's bare
stainless. The car is a perfect example of how NOT to treat a
DeLorean. The rubber on the door seals is rotten, and the leather
inside is dried out. Even though the car is in a museum, it has not
been taken good care of. Anywho, to answer you question, yes they
could replace the emblem to make the car look "proper", but it would
probably ruin the car's personal history.

This is a great example of how a slight modification to a stock part
(of which there is an abundant supply) can solve a problem - some of
the "newbies" on the list wouldn't have seen this post from Hank, so
I thought I'd bring it up again.

Help!!!...I backed my Delorean out of the garage to finish a wood
working project and now it will not start.  I pulled a plug wire and
there is spark.  Also, I felt the fuel pump while someone tried to
start the motor and the pump is running...any idea's???...

Subject: Help!  Car locked and running

I did something stupid - pulled into the garage and closed the door while
the car was  running.  For some reason the front latch is caught and my
only key is in the car.

Front and rear hoods latched, passenger door locked.  Need to figure out
something that I can undo to kill the car.

Is the fuel pump accessible from underneath?  I'm flipping through the
manuals right now, but could really use some help.  (And she's got a full
tank!!!)

Any suggestions out there?  (beyond "don't do that" and "keep a spare
key")

Popped the engine compartment open and pulled the coil wire.

Still would like to know what folks would have suggested.  If you do want
