I don't recommend using the #180 grit sand paper, let alone the #220. I
replaced my door lock with the smaller escutcheon Volvo ignition variety and
found that the larger original lock left a deep polish print in the
stainless. I removed this print using #80 grit sand paper. It took a lot
of scratching, but the print finally wore away. I scratched up the
surrounding area to blend in and then finished it up with a black
Scotchbrite pad. This matches the factory finish perfectly, and it is what
Rob Grady told me to use. (He sold me the locks and the Scotchbrite pads.)
If you use anything finer than this combination, then to that extent you are
going to end up polishing the stainless instead of texturing it. But be
very careful with the direction of the texture you apply. One stroke in a
wrong or curved pattern will take a lot more scratching to correct.

I got to thinking...
If anyone knows approximately how much investment money was lost due to DMC
going out of business, then we could divide out how much money was lost per
vehicle made. This would be fun to know.
Then when someone asks me what my car is worth, I could tell them I don't
know, but it cost $$$$ bucks to make it. If this number is very high (and
I'm sure it is) then this would put the value of our cars in a different
perspective.
Do we have any mathematicians/trivia experts out there who wish to tackle
this?

The Northern California DeLorean Motor Club (NCDMC) will be having a Brunch
and caravan to the new Chabot Space & Science Center on September 24.
Our day will start with Brunch at "His Lordships", (510)843-2733 located at
the Berkeley Marina. We have reservations for 9 am to 9:30. You'll need to
let us know if you can come so we can set the count for the reservations.
After brunch, we'll caravan to the amazing new Chabot Space & Science Center
in the Oakland Hills (about 15 miles from the Pier).

Hello everyone,
I would like to tell you about a great experience for me. Today (sunday) I not only saw a Delorean for the first time, but I saw about TEN Deloreans! I was driving up the Oregon coast on highway 101, and in the town of Nehalem, I turned the corner to see a gravel parking lot full of Beautiful Deloreans. I didn't even think about it, I just immediately pulled over and got out of the car to check them out. There was a red one there, and the one and only Delorean trailer too! I couldn't believe my luck. I talked to one of the guys, (sorry I never got your name) and he told me they were the Pacific Northwest Delorean Club. When I got there, they were just leaving, so I didn't get to hang around very long. (By the way, if any of you were there, I was the guy driving the Mazda RX-7) I left with them, and I got to be in front of their caravan for a while :)
I was totally amazed at how low and wide these cars really are! And so shiny! The stainless steel is beautiful. You really have to see one to understand, because a picture just doesn't cut it.
Any members of the PNDC, please respond if you remember me! I would love to get together with you some time to get a closer look at your cars. That really made my day to see them!

Make sure the starter solenoid modification has been performed. I had the
same problem when I bought my DeLorean. There's a service bulletin that
describes this procedure. I can't remember the number, but I'm sure someone
on the list knows it.

I got a flat tire last night and would like to share some insights:
1) The spare is very old. It looked great, and when I put it on the car
and lowered the jack, everything seemed fine. After driving 3 feet,
however, all the pressure leaked out. Bummer at midnight on a work night.
2) No amount of coaxing will enable a rear tire to fit into the trunk. The
only place it will fit is the passenger seat. If you get a flat, you have
to choose whether to abandon your tire or your passenger. Fortunately, I
didn't have a passenger. But I did have a large towel (which I recommend
for everyone's 'emergency tools' kit) to protect my NEW leather seats from
the tire.
3) AAA is a wonderful service, and if you ask, they will send a flatbed.
The driver stopped off for a disposable camera, and used up all the film on
my car.
I also have some questions. Does anyone know if the spare can be fixed?
May it just need to be pulled from the rim and remounted? If so, can any
tire place do this? Also, when I got home it looked like the alignment
between the rear fascia and the stainless quarter panels had shifted
(although it was dark, and I was tired, so I could be wrong). Has anyone
experienced this after towing?

Subject: fuel enrichment
Hello List,
My car hasnt been running in about a month because my ECU went bad. I
just got a new one today and now I have run into another problem. The fuel
enrichment circuit unit is not buzzing when the car starts or when jumped. I
even jumped it from the RPM relay and all I got was a click from the lambda
relay but no buzzing.(I had a rubber band around the full throttle
microswitch while doing this so it would operate.) I checked the connections
on the relay and they are fine and I even rewired it back to the enrichment
unit and still nothing. what could be the problem? any ideas?

I have just purchased two mint (never driven) DeLoreans in the US.
(The last 1981 and the first 1982 model).
Does anyone have experience with a car shipper from the US to the UK
that you would recomend? Also what type of prices did it cost. The

Sorry to hear about your flat experience. I too have had a flat and found the
spare low on air. A very common problem. I was lucky and had a place to air
it up. You are right about no place for the rear tire to ride. I have one of
the luggage racks just for this reason.Have not had to use it for this yet,
but is a great place to haul 20lb sack of dog food. Save your $, contact DMC
Houston, get a luggage rack. When not in use ,it stores in the compartment in
the front. As for the repairing of the spare have no idea. But your posting
can serve as a warning to all CHECK THE AIR IN YOUR SPARE!!!!!

Hmmmm. I'm sure this isn't the case. I cruised all the way home with the
problem....once you are totally in a gear and the clutch has "caught"
fully-the car drives/accelerates as normal. Of course, when I took the car
for a 15min drive to troubleshoot nothing out of the ordinary happened!!

Subject: Voltage problem on other car
Great, now my other D' is giving me a voltage problem. This one has the
original Motorola Alternator with 6400 miles on it. When I first start the
car the voltage is like 10V, and I now my meter is not wrong because the
stero and lights do not work or are dim, but If I rev the engine to 3000
rpms, the voltage goes to just above 13 and stays there. I can drive
around, and the voltage stays where it is suposed to be, but if I turn it
off and on again, the voltage goes down to almost nothing, whats my problem?

The front is a 195/60-14 and the rear is a 235/60-15. A lot of tires don't
have BOTH of these sizes available. I highly recommend keeping both the
front and the rear the same model of tire if you drive the car very much.
Different models can affect handling drastically.
I personally recommend the Yokohama AVS Intermediate. This model tire is a
very good high performance tire with excellent dry and wet weather
performance. The price is very reasonable also. If you don't have a
Yokohama dealer near you, the tires can be ordered at a good price from the
Tire Rack http://www.tirerack.com/ I can recommend them highly as I've
been ordering tires from them for the past 5 years. I paid $350 last year,
for a full set of 4 tires delivered to my door. They have a list of
recommended installers around the country that you can access on their web
site. If there isn't one in your area just try calling around. Many shops
will mount other brands of tires. Just find someone that doesn't hassle you
about it.

your steering rack off and managed to put it back on upside down. I have
read about that before on the DML." Sorry, but I don't think you ever read
that on the DML. Its impossible to put the rack in upside down, unless you
are converting to RHD (and then it would also steer backwards). If
installed incorrectly the pinion would either be pointed forward, or on the
RH side of the car. Either way it would be difficult to hook up the
steering column. Just thought someone should point that out.

I was at Sears auto recently and was surprised to see they sell Yokohamas,
the favored replacement. I didn't ask if they had my size, since I already
have the Yokos. But I was surprised. You can also get them through the
internet. I did, and so have others. I think it's www.tirerack.com. Prices
were decent, too.

Today i went to delorean motor center to pick up my
car.Since i dont have a license to drive,i took one of
my good friends felix which is on the list(felix won a
councours trophy against 7 deloreans) any ways to get
to my point. I need the followig parts:fan censor (im
using a paper clip),dmc tire caps,front fascia,rear
drivers side quarter panel(hey erick u still got one)
and thats about it.Hopefully some one will have these
parts.
