I have a old 66 mustang that was designed to run on
lead fuel..

The proper way to adjust the timing is to advance it
as far as you can, then drive it..  If it "pings" when
you accelerate, then you need to turn back the timing
a small amount.  Repeat until there is no more ping.

if you don't know what a ping sounds like, then enlist
of the help of someone that does.
