The accumulator should in no way affect the cold start performance. 
Except that if replacing a duff accu, the pump now has to pressurise a 
larger volume before gaining the pressure to fire the injectors. It 
really helps to allow the pump to prime a couple of times (you can 
usually hear it when you turn the ignition on but this is a quirk and 
not all D's do it)
