No, it's a degree of disconnection from the car that I don't like. You 
can't control how the engine relates to the ground. I've had some 
hair-raising experiences in automatics (not D's) - one example is 
slamming on the anchors, locking up (which was scary enough) stalling as 
a result, and engine-not-being-connected-directly-to-wheels, the bugger 
didn't re-start when I came off the pedal. On a blind corner in the dark 
and rain. With a dodgy starter.

I don't like the way you start "learning" where to throttle the engine 
on a particular corner or roundabout to stop the thing changing gear at 
the wrong moment. Maybe I'd just be happy with the best the engine has 
got in that gear, but oh no, you  want to kick down..... Mainly aimed 
the modern ones with too many gears
