You answered your own question :-) www.delorean.com have a 
remanufactured unit. It's not worth fixing the originals as they're so 
poorly made. Replacements are $99 and I've got one of the first batch in 
my #1458 which James brought over for me at the NEC in 2002. It's still 
working fine.

You don't need to order one - it's dead easy to do it yourself. It is a 
case of "treating the symptoms and not the disease" though
