Re: [doc] Happy 2006

Thanks for that mate.

I think the vast majority of people on here probably agree with you regarding my posts but I'm sure there are one or two people that I've inadvertantly offended when I've been in a stressed state-of-mind, but as I'm sure I'm through the worst of the condition now I doubt that will happen again.

I never used to agree with the saying "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger", but recently I've started to see what it's all about because when I think how fragile I used to be when I was really under the control of OCD and then compare it to how I am now; I've really come a long way and I think that mentally I'm much tougher than I used to be as a result.

I often wish that someone that doesn't suffer from OCD could have the full effects of it for just one day so that they would abandon their prejudices but obviously that's not possible so people like me have to carry on under the cloud created by society's attitude to people with psychological health issues.  It's not at all fair but then that's just a part of life that we're meant to accept.

Anyhoo, thanks for that as I didn't think anyone had read it until you replied.

Well said Mike. I hope the coming years are much happier ones for you.
I personally think your posts were ok. Its just that some childish people take offence a little too easily.
But seriosly, I think you're right, nobody can understand what a particular illness is like, until they've actually had it themselves. Id just like to say "good on you" for sharing it with everyone. It must have been hell for you.
I hope you get through it alright matey.

Best Wishes,

As a lot of other members have already done I'd like to wish everyone in the group a happy and prosperous 2006.

I'm sure that for some of you the past year has been good; others bad, but as we stand at the gateway to a new one I'm sure all of you are feeling positive about what's to come in the next 12 months.

As it happens I'm not one of lucky ones as I've had an appauling year and I'm extremely glad to see the back of it.

After being diagnosed with severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder back in March, I've spent much of the year trying to beat this most misunderstood and underappreciated of illnesses.  Although I sought out professional help it was the most traumatic and difficult task I have ever had to undertake, however now I am a great deal better than I was.

The reason I'm telling you all this is because on several occasions I feel I have probably come across as very argumentative on the news group, and although I didn't give any explanation for this at the time, I'm now comfortable enough that I am through the worst to be able to talk about it and explain that it was the enormous stress of the situation that made me so awkward at times.

The majority of you probably don't have any insight into what OCD feels like, but let me just say that if you can imagine being in fear of leaving the house because of the constant worry of being infected, of not wanting to touch anything in case it's infected, and of feeling compelled to wash your hands repeatedly before you're satisfied that they're clean enough then you'd have a fairly accurate idea of what it's like all day, every day for a sufferer like me.

Anyway, with all that said it's no longer a mystery to you all why I was going on a bit in some posts but hopefully I won't be in the sort of state again that will make me likely to do it again.

    Best wishes to you all.

    Regards,
