The 'X' was on mine as well when I got it, and at that time the bonnet
(hood) was only 2 years old.

I'm not sure the cleaning stranger is necessarily to blame.

  I think every De Lorean has it, just depends on the angle that the light
shines onto it. I dont think you can get rid of it either.
  I notice it on my car too after I've washed it, or the sun is shining onto
it. Doesnt really bother me though.
