RE: [doc] FW: make poverty history

I agree Lee.
Another problem is European farmers being subsidised to produce too much
food which is then left to rot, which is utter madness.
On another note, I can?t believe that idiot Bush wont sign up to Kyoto ?
climate change is happening! I?ve noticed the difference in the last
25years. When I was at senior school 20-odd years ago (showing my age
here) we had proper winters which lasted from November through to late
February with over a foot of snow (and yes that is here, daan saaaf!),
and the school only shut if the boiler packed up and the temperatures in
class dropped to below 5C; not because there was a light dusting of
?icing sugar? on the pavements. I can remember spending all the winter
holidays sledging with my mates at Fairlands Valley Park (complete with
?moon boots?!)?..ah, happy days ;o) Also, I can remember in 1990
keeping a large broom and shovel in the boot of my Ford Escort because
I?d have to dig it out of the snow in the morning to go to work and then
dig it out again in the evening.
Just sending money to Africa as we know doesn?t really solve anything,
as the governments are so corrupt it wont get where its needed. There
was a really interesting discussion on R4 this afternoon about this, and
what really helps is helping the African people to help themselves - to
grow crops, irrigate the land, educate the children and provide better
healthcare and drugs. AIDS in Africa is a real problem and the drug
companies who can help are too worried about their precious profits and
shareholders to pitch in and provide life saving medicines either free
or cheaply.
Like you say Lee, this is 2005???.

I?ll get off my soapbox now.

Hi Folks

Everyone is spouting on about G8 and Poverty so I don't blame anyone for
deleting this if you wish
Until today I didn't know anything about Fair trade laws and just turned
over the channel to Hollyoaks like everyone else....

But if they are not changed the countries that are genuinely trying to
develop themselves will fail ,BUSH and all the other head figures dump
all
the crap surplus food mountains onto them causing local trade to become
out
priced and un viable .....

This must stop ....for Christ's sake its 2005 !

Its Free.....and we may make a difference

Register on the petition.....even its its just as a two fingers up at
Bush

It will cost you no more than two minutes of your time

Many Thanks

Lee - Doc 99
