[doc] Getting my D ready for MOT

Hi all - glad you all had a great time at Gaydon.  Hopefully i will
be there next year with 6723.

I picked my car up from southampton midweek and have spent the whole
weekend 7am - 10pm working on her getting her ready for the MOT with
my mechanically minded brother and father in law.

This has always been my dream car and i have really enjoyed learning
more about these great vehicles.

The washer and wipers werent working and avter all obvious checks it
was traced to a faulty lucas interm controll unit...(under the dash)
and the motor was v slow /burnt out broken too.

It took a full day to fit the wiper motor...it is a pig of a job.
We had to remove the pedal box and steering coloumn but eventually
it is all working and the lucas unit was repaired.

I managed to get a washer motor that fitted from a local car parts
store and that job was relatively smooth.  The holding tub had about
3 inches of dirt in the bottom including several big dead
beetles...mmmmmmmmmmm!

I am going to do a service this week (i have all the parts from
DMUK) and
the fog light rewiring has all been done and now i am just waiting
on my new headlamps b4 i go for the MOT.

A couple of questions if you do not mind...how long do the cars (on
average) run b4 the fans kck in...i have tested the fans by
overiding the switch thing on the coolant pipe thingy and they
worked but after 10 mins of running the car they had yet to
autromatically...what do you think?

Secondly i wanted to check if my mileage was genuine...how amny
lamda clicks is it to the mile.  (My brother in law who was helping
kept calling it the LAMBADA counter!!!!! isnt that a dance)

Finally...my car is an auto Aug 82 and just imported...the engine
runs great...and i think i have been lucky for the price i paid but
can i have advice on what else i should instantly upgrade check b4 i
start using her as my daily driver!!!!

any help appreciated!
