RE: [doc] Doris?

One of them was probably Willy Green or Roger Cowman, both of them were
involved with road testing around Derbyshire ( amongst other places) You
are quite correct, the early "slidey window" cars worked exclusively on
the torsion bar, but fears were expressed about what would happen if it
broke with your leg half way out!

The doors and under body had to be re-engineered. Brian Rix from
Norfolk was heavily involved and is probably going to be amongst of team
of  ex Lotus  speakers at our Lotus 06 event.

Subject: [doc] Doris?

Whilst at the Belper Carnival on Saturday, I had a chap come up to the
car, point at the door strut, and say "Did you fit those?"

"Err, no. They've all got them"

"Oh", he said "They must have put them on later. I don't remember the
ones we tested having them on"

Turns out the chap I was talking to was on of those involved in the
original preproduction 75,000 mile endurance testing of the DeLorean!!

He later introduced me to the owner of the then company, and we had a
long chat about how Lotus would deliver the cars to them under cover and
how they would drive them around the UK until they broke. Then they
would collect them from the roadside, transport them back to the unit,
where Lotus would pick them up and determine what had failed. They also
had to have a fuel store, and carry it around in the cars, since
unleaded fuel wasn't sold in the UK at the time.

Apparently the Auto's were the most troublesome - mainly due to the
transmission overheating. Another source of failure was the electrical
system - Hmmm, I guess that bit never got fixed then :)

And 'Doris'... well apparently that's the nick name Lotus gave the D !
