Re: [doc] My problem

The battery is new, and the volt meter reads about 11ish volts, but someone on the list says that is normal in De Loreans. At the moment, the negative earth cable isnt connected properly, so I use jump leads to connect the negative battery terminal to the engine block, and the postive battery terminal to the positive wire in the engine bay.
Also its an automatic, so no jump starting. Would the jump leads be the point where I'm losing power? I'll try cleaning those cables in the engine bay now and let you all know how I get on.

Thanks guys!
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

If it's a manual gearbox, try bump starting the car using 2nd gear. If it then starts and runs then there's a problem with the usual battery/ cables/ starter/ solenoid/ relays etc etc

If battery goes less than 9v when cranking then battery isn't charged up enouugh or suitable. (Charge off car and perform acid specific gravity test)

You should get no more than 0.1v between cable points. If you do there is a poor connection.

Good luck....hope it's not the start itself !

Nick.

Rights heres the symptoms. When I turn the key, all the belts in the engine move a few inches then nothing. With the spark plugs out (and no pressure in the cylinders) the engine can turn over freely and perfectly, so the engine isnt seized. The starter motor has been removed and tested so thats not the problem either.

Any help or advice would be apreciated! If I can't fix it the car will have to be sent to Paul O'Malley to be worked on (dont trust anyone else) and I would rather try and get it going myself.

Thanks a lot,
Thomas
