Mike,

The standard USA issue was side mounted terminals, but regular batteries are
easier to locate and cheaper. You can get  little converter jobbies.

I have isolating switches fitted to both my cars, I?ve never had a flat
batter since. Mine are fitted on 12? long fly leads than can be reached from
the drivers seat.  It also saves having to mess about with the door light
switches and is a good anti-theft item. I just drop a duster over it and it
disappears.
