I had fried chicken for lunch with a buttery biscuit (not a cracker
like people in the UK eat), and some french fries (not chips as they
call it in the UK). I don't care too much about the weight that is
inside of my vehicle.
Depending on fuel and how I drive, I get a consistant 22 - 25 mpg with
my car. I have found that I get the same gas mileage even when I have
a passenger. If the added weight of a passenger doesn't have a
noticible effect on my gas milage, I seriously doubt a few pounds from
a full size spare would make any difference.
I put anything I can fit in my car that will make my life easier
should the unexpected happen. I could care less about having room for
luggage. I spent almost 3 weeks in Europe a few months ago with
nothing more than a small back pack and 3 days worth of clothes
(during the winter thankyou). I don't need room for a bulky suitcase.
I seem to remember someone saying they don't want to work on their car
on the side of the road because they are never dressed for it.
Neither am I but guess what? Things happen and sometimes you have to
get dirty. Thats what washing machines and hand cleaner are for.
Nothing is stopping a person from carrying a change of clothes in any
car.
Btw, I've asked about 10 people at work for their opinion on carrying
a spare tire. Each one of them felt that only an idiot would drive
around without a usable spare tire. Please note this was the opinion
of slow talking southerners who typically aren't very educated. I
think only half of the guys I work with have college degrees.
End of rant.
