Not for long, after leaving gas in the tank for a mere 12 years, much of
the gas is no longer a fluid,  it becomes sludge.

 

Anyway, once Doc used the grain alcohol and blew out the fuel
distributor and airflow meter, it would have taken weeks to rebuild it
(his words).

 

His best bet would have been to send a second telegram to Marty, to be
delivered the afternoon before his departure, telling him that since he
was coming anyway, perhaps he could bring a carb and a spare can of gas,
along with a 9 year old boy named Bill Robertson...
