More than likely, Doc would have drained the tank before storing the car. The
other theory I have heard is that they would not have wanted to enter the cave
for any reason for fear of damaging the 1955 time machine further and causing a
paradox.

Subject: [DML] Back To The Future Thought..
Watching the movies for the millionth time today I had a thought....
In BTTF 3 I understand that in 1885 they could not use the Delorean that was
already in the cave because that would make it impossible for Marty to get back
to Doc from 1955...... But..... Gas was available in the future in 1955... They
could have gone to the mine and taken some fuel from it to use in the 1885
Delorean before blowing it up with booze... Right??
