Rich, it sounds like one or more of your shocks are blown.  Push up and
down on each corner of the car, and see if you get bounce.  If so it
could be the shock.  Also visually check the shocks for oil on them,
another sign they are blown out.

 

Everybody has shocks these days.  Marty has an updated set, Hervey sells
several options, and I'm running DMC Europe's adjustable shocks now
(they go from soft to rock hard without tools).

About 2 years ago, I installed Marty Maier's shock set, replaced all of
my control arm bushings and boxed in my control arms.

The only thing I'm unhappy with is that the springs seem soft and worn.
They allow the car to bottom out too easily, bouncing the radiator off
the ground.

I am not interested in changing the ride height of the car, or investing
in the Eibach springs unless absolutely necessary. Would a pair of NOS
springs that haven't had the weight of the car on them for 28 years
provide the renewed stiffness that I'm looking for or would they also be
soft?
