Sounds like you made up a pretty nice mod. I would still try to fix
the reason for the excessive build-up of heat. Something is wrong for
your car to generate that much heat in that area. It could be the
heater fan is going bad and drawing way too much current. Get an
ammeter on it and see what it is sucking up in the way of amps. Also
check all of the connections for heat damage. Take the cover off of
the fuses, it will help them stay cooler too.
