The "dull" look is oxidation - yes stainless will apparently oxidize.
After all these years, I have found that the Car Care Kit stuff works
very well (still available at DMCH). Depending on how much the car is
outside, the waxing lasts for a couple of years - or more. In between
I use Meguiar's Quick Detailer (mist & wipe). It is a little touchy
on streaks but a damp cloth eliminates them quickly. Follow-ups with
a damp cloth and a towel buff keep the car clean a long time with no
dull look.
The Car Care Kit has a blending pad and a leather conditioner too. I
have the original seats from my first DeLorean (parted with it at
90,000 miles in 1987) in my current D and the seats are still in good
shape - and soft leather too. I supplemented the kit conditioner with
a saddle soap from time to time.
