[DML] Catalytic converter

I see that the O2 detector is located before the cat converter.  If I 
was to eliminate the CAT, would I have any problems with the O2 sensor 
system?  Does anyone have experience with this?  I'm looking at how to 
(cheaply) make the exhaust system more free flowing than it is, stock.

Ultimately, I plan to replace the entire system with John Hervey's 
stainless sytem, but in the interim, I'd like to get some improvement.

Ideas?
