It's obvious to me from the many variables that no 'one' answer exists.
Everyone will have a different result, even if we all did the same
thing, service-wise.
For what it's worth, here's my clutch experience story:
My car was diagnosed in person (by one of our official DeLorean care
providers) as having a slipping clutch. We talked it over, and due to
my situation, I ordered official parts from him and had the work done
by another garage (non official, yet veterans with years of experience)
transmission specialist here where I live. (Keep in mind: Transmission
work is all they do.)
When I returned to get the D, half a mile down the road, I noticed I
had no 4th, 5th and reverse gear.
Long story short, the nightmare grew exponentially from there.
(Including the expenses.)
I've learned my lesson, and I'm thankful for the handful of DeLorean
specialists I can run crying to on those occasions when I'm not lucky
on a gamble.
Some folks are surprised when normal mechanics refuse to do work on a
DeLorean. I say it's a wonder there are DeLorean specialists that will
work on our cars, because they KNOW they can expect bolts to crack off,
etc.
We drive our car a lot, and I'm proud and grateful to have had my
DeLorean worked on at Rob's (PJ Grady New York), Tony's (DMC Florida),
Don's (Garden Grove California), and Steve's (DMC Houston).
Maybe that's why I'm at 150,000 miles and the D runs like a smooth,
zippy joy.
Can't wait to drive to Gettysburg! See you there!
