Re: ricers:
I know it used to be an anti-Japanese slur, but I've only ever heard
it used (over the last ~5 years or so) to describe the morons who
think a 50 pound plastic wing on their Civic is going to make it faster.
You know the type I mean. All show, no actual performance, but even
the 'show' part is ugly and dumb-looking. They picked up the ricer
label since they almost exclusively use Japanese cars, but they tend
to be your standard bored suburbanites, not necessarily any particular
nationality.
My favorites are the wings on the backs of FWD cars, the fake nitrous
oxide bottles, and the cold air intakes routed over the engine block
or radiator.
As far as any controversy, I don't think there will be any at the show
(although I probably won't be able to go this time, either...). From
what I've seen, there's very little animosity on this list (barring a
few notable exceptions, of course).
If there is any rivalry, I'd think it would be friendly, not angry.
Both Bricklins and Deloreans have been confused with each other so
often that we must have a lot of uninformed-bypasser jokes in common,
at the very least.
