I did ask a mechanical engineer friend, and he did say
that these types of gears ARE directional.. And he
agreed that if the angle drives in our DeLoreans were
"borrowed" from a design where it has been flipped
over, it would have a higher failure rate.
Maybe if I have some time, I will see if I can find my
old one to take apart and have him inspect.
