Wheel offset truly sets DeLoreans apart. On production vehicles with
different wheel widths the front wheels usually align with the center
of the rear wheels, not the outer edge. Our frames are also slightly
wider in the front than the rear. The overall effect is to
de-emphasize the difference in wheel sizes. I've wondered if this was
a concession to the large rear wheels required by the weight bias.
Would help explain our undersized spare tire wells -- if the original
concept was 14" around the whole car, our spare tire wells would have
been adequate.
