I wouldn't feel too comfortable - I cannot believe that the relay you
identify could fail in such a way as to kill your engine - it is
possible but, in my opinion, incredibly remote.
I think you fixed - unknowingly - a faulty connection for the spark.
I would make some notes of your test process and what you did and go
over it again and make sure all connections are good and clean.
I agree, it never hurts to have a new RPM relay around.
