[DML] PRV Performance -- The Big Picture

DMC chose Volvo's F Series incarnation of the PRV for convenience, not
performance. It's characteristics were adequate, not optimal.

Volvo developed the F Series to maximize profits, and to meet US fuel
economy and emissions restrictions. Better performing alternatives
were available -- Europeans proved that. Volvo's North American
version was adequate, not optimal.

So, we are all driving around on adequate, not optimal, engines. Any
owner who claims the PRV as installed by DMC has no margin for
improvement denies the Alpine, the 505, and even Volvo's
B280/Chrysler's 3.0.

Of course a lot of European performance comes from increased
compression, or even outright forced induction. Those options require
much more modification than most owners are willing to invest. So are
they doomed to languish at the rear of the pack with Granny in her
260? Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that they are. At least
those who reach for better performance will go down trying. Seems a
more admirable position than the Luddites who blindly raise their Blue
Coils as pinnacles of development.

And I once again point to John's website: A performance setup from him
costs *LESS* than an OEM setup. Blue Coiler's are the ones paying a
premium. Unless HEI lowers performance or is less durable (contentions
that haven't been raised in this thread), the question isn't "why
upgrade," it's "why not." 

Remember that a setup with 8.5mm wires will actually cost $5 more than
OEM. I might almost spot a Blue Coiler that $5 just to put this thread
to bed.
