That's true, but I find most gas station attendants are quite willing to  let 
me fill mine anyway. Maybe the whole "gas tank opening in the trunk" thing  
spooks them. Then again, I also have no front license plate mounted, which is  
also required in NJ but looks better missing. (I have it in view on the parcel 
 shelf, as required.) Neither the state inspection stations or the officer 
who  once pulled me over for... ahem... speeding, ever said anything about it.
