Everything with the cat is easier if you can get it up on alift, call in
a favor somewhere and get it overhead.  I assume you have the muffler
off, its at least hard to remove the cat with that still on , probably
impossible. It may help to take the crossover pipe loose from the
exhaust manifolds on both side, bud don's snap any more studs!
 
By the way, note Dave Delmans post on rusty cv balls, he has NOS cats...
