[DML] alternator acting weird...any ideas

Last week while driving home my atlernator light came on and volts 
needle pointed downward. Electrical system isn't grounding out; lights 
and everything still work after parking car.

When I push in the gas very fast and do a high RPM, the alt light will 
go off and volts needle back to normal. After about 2-3 minutes, volts 
needle drops and light comes on. Again I push in the gas very fast and 
get high RPM and light goes off. The process goes on forever. Checked 
the belt and it is on ok.

Any ideas???
